General's Residence Wedding, San Francisco, CA - Gennie & Davey

One of the exciting things about being a wedding photographer is getting those wedding inquiries that promise to take us to fun locations. What’s even more fun is when we get to continue working with friends or families that we’ve had the pleasure of working with before!

When we got the wedding inquiry from Gennie and Davey, inviting us to come out to San Francisco to photo their General’s Residence wedding at Fort Mason, we got to check off both of those boxes!

We had previously met Gennie while photoing her best friend Katherine’s wedding in Portland, Oregon a few years ago. They belong to a network of couples (14 total!) that we have had the privilege working with over the last 9 years. So needless to say we were excited to travel to California and to continue building this network of friends!

Gennie and Davey had a very relaxing morning getting ready. They chose to get ready in the apartment they share in San Francisco and invited a few of their close friends to join them. This provided some unique photo opportunities where we got to catch sweet moments of them checking in on each other as they got ready!

We love when we get the chance to photo the getting ready portion of the day in a place that is significant to them because it gives us a chance to get to know them better. With Gennie and Davey, we were able to see just how much friends and family mean to them, as evidenced by the photos and artwork that cover the walls of their home.

One of the most outstanding items that signifies Gennie’s love and appreciation for her family is the quilt that hangs over their bed made of some of her childhood clothes. The sight of remnants of her childhood juxtaposed against her wedding dress hanging near it was so beautiful!

Once everyone was ready we set out on our photo walk about around the city (something we were very excited about)! Our mission was to capture them in places that were distinctly San Francisco, and what better place to start than on a trolley car?! We got on one that was packed, given it was a beautiful summer weekend day, but everyone was more than accommodating of the bride, groom and their friends.

Our next stop was South End Rowing Club, where we met up the day before for their early morning Alcatraz swim! When it is possible we always encourage incorporating places that have shared significance to the couple, and that is definitely the South End Rowing Club, where they both enjoy going for open water swims.

We continued with a stop at Ghirardelli Square, another quintessential San Francisco destination. We found some brightly colored rainbow stairs to take a few photos and then continued on.

The General’s Residence at Fort Mason sits atop a bluff overlooking the San Francisco Bay, which makes a perfect spot for a wedding ceremony! Guests gathered on the back lawn, underneath the towering eucalyptus trees, looking out over the bay and witnessed a truly beautiful ceremony for Gennie and Davey. It’s always fun to see what personal details or moments are added into a ceremony, and they had a really special one! Because they valued everyone at their wedding equally, they included everyone’s name in a hat and drew two names to be their witnesses and sign their marriage license.

The rest of the evening was beautiful, as everyone danced and celebrated the newly weds! As the sun set we grabbed Gennie and Davey to get some sunset photos. We ran into one of Davey’s family members who excitedly told us he had just taken a stroll along the bluff to find that the Golden Gate Bridge, which had been hiding behind a dense fog all day, had decided to emerge and he’d just captured the most epic sunset photo! We hurried with Davey and Gennie and were so very excited to be getting the iconic sunset photos we’d set out to capture!

We are so grateful that Gennie and Davey invited us out to California to witness and capture their beautiful wedding! We had the best time capturing all of the moments of the weekend for them.

Congratulations Gennie and Davey! We wish you a lifetime of love and adventure together!
