Julia + Chandler's Wilmington, NC Wedding

We are taking it back to 2018 today for Julia & Chandler's Wilmington, NC Wedding!

We. Love. Wilmington. Let us just get the off our chests. :) We fell in love with the cinematic town by the Cape Fear river back when we were living in Washington DC. We would regularly drive down on the weekends to do extra-ing at Screen Gems studios for movies and TV shows being filmed there. Eagle eye fans of One Tree Hill might even be able to spot us in a few episodes if you're lucky! :)

If you've never been, Wilmington has the perfect charm of a southern river town with the added benefit of also being by one of our favorite beaches on the East Coast, Wrightsville Beach. So if you like coastal living (and film and tv show history) it's the best!

After our time in DC, we lived in Raleigh for about 4 years and that's how we met up with Julia & Chandler, through Chandler's sister Ashley (who we also photographed her wedding in Asheville). When Julia & Chandler asked us to photo their wedding in 2018 we had already moved from NC to our current residence in Upstate NY, but we obviously jumped at the chance to return to the town we love so much.

We started the day off with getting ready at the Hampton Inn located in the Historic District Downtown right near the Riverwalk. We then moved to sweetest location for Julia & Chandler's first look that we had found on our first trip to the town way back in 2008. A simple red door framed by columns and sweeping vines. We love choosing minimal backdrops to focus the attention on the moment and their moment reading notes they had written to each other before finally turning around for the first look was everything we had hoped it would be!

Then it was a short walk to the ceremony and reception venue, Saint Thomas Preservation Hall. A perfect location downtown that can easily do double duty for the ceremony and festivities to follow. While not a church, it has the feeling of one since it used to be a Catholic Church before it was converted into an event space.

Saint Thomas Preservation Hall also has the added benefit of being across the street from the City Club of Wilmington, an absolutely gorgeous space for couples & wedding party portraits. We're not exactly sure how we were able to use this space for photos since the City Club is its own separate venue, but we were and we did! Hahaha...

As you can see in the portraits below, their gardens are absolutely perfect and the house on the property is the perfect backdrop to showcase a wedding in the Historic District of Wilmington.

After photos, we moved back to the Preservation Hall, and we witnessed some epic dancing and an always fun sparkler send off. Such and amazing night and day spent with Julia & Chandler!
